Do you dread Sunday nights and Monday mornings?

Do you find yourself constantly negotiating with, begging or bribing your kid to get up and go to school? Does your child have meltdowns every time they try to go to school or do school work? Is your child constantly shutting off the camera, closing the screen or walking away from virtual school? Are you and your child struggling to put into practice the strategies learned in therapy to address school refusal and avoidance behaviors?

If so, we want to help.

What is Coaching?

Our coaching team is here to help support your child and family in making a successful school transition.

Based on your specific needs, our coaches will connect with your child as often as needed to give direction, encouragement and accountability so they can begin to re-engage with school and learning. Coaches will meet virtually (Zoom) or by phone (or text) as much as needed (from multiple times a day to weekly). Your child’s coaching team will be collaborative, accessible, and dependable.

Coaching Connections are customized based on your child’s needs and provide an opportunity to stay connected and on track with the Coaching Plan.

What is Coaching?

Our coaches provide expert hands-on assistance to your child (5th grade through emerging adulthood) in between therapy sessions, especially when your child and family need it most. Coaches help your child carry out and apply the critical skills and strategies they are learning in therapy. Coaches reduce the burden on parents by helping your child do the necessary steps to gain independence and face challenging and tough situations.

What will Coaches do?

Coaches collect information and regularly communicate with your child’s team (family, professionals, school) to make sure that the current coaching plan best serves your child’s needs. They will also routinely provide important updates to the team. Practically, coaches help by putting therapy skills into action, supporting maintenance of Targeted Routines for critical times, and helping students prepare for transitions to learning and class attendance.

Our Team

While your child may work exclusively with one coach, coaches often work in a small team. The Directors of Successful School Transitions, Dr. Erica Miller and Dr. Rebecca Sachs, will meet with coaches regularly and be personally involved in your child’s care. Coaches are skilled in providing support, consistency, and accountability to help your child and family follow through on learned cognitive-behavioral supports and strategies to make the necessary behavioral changes in their life and an increased sense of success. Coaches are not…

Coaches are not academic tutors or learning specialists. Coaching is not a medical, mental health or any other type of health service. It is not psychotherapy or mental health counseling.  Coaching is not a substitute for medical or other healthcare diagnosis and treatment. Our coaches may hold graduate degrees or be licensed in healthcare professions, and as part of their professional practices may treat, but the coaching services we offer are not medical, psychiatric, psychological, nor psychotherapy. Please note that health insurance companies do not reimburse for coaching services.

Families come to us with different histories, situations, and levels of already established support. Some families are referred by their school or treatment; for others we are the first stop. In addition to our coaching packages, we offer Consultation to discuss your needs and to work with professionals.

For every situation, Successful School Transitions Coaching is here to support your needs.
